Our Place is a play mixed with comedy and drama about telling the different stories of couples, families and friends taking place on a lakeside dock. The audience gets a good look at how a simple place can mean so much to so many people. Recently, Hillgrove High School’s drama department performed this play on October 20th, October 21st and October 22nd for opening night. They also performed on October 27th for the school and October 29th for the drama department competition.
The competition is when “school's from our region they pick up a one act show and you get your set on and off and it's 55 minutes and if you get over then you lose points. There are a lot of awards you can get and later we get to sit down and watch other people.” said by Vibel Nakande. This time, the competition took place at Harrison High School on and Marietta High School ended up winning.
There were a lot of performances of this play but, what led the drama department to perform for the school was the audience. “The one that was outside of school, the laughs were ok but the class show was so good because everyone was great and everyone was respectful.” commented Vibel. Jacob Misner continued with “The audience was great and they were so reactive and we actually got to make Mrs. Stewart cry and she said the school needed to see this so we ended up performing during second and fourth block.”
The audience ended up liking the play as much as the actors did “ It's between the first scene with was when the ex-girlfriend caught her ex with another girl at "their place" or the epilogue where the little girl that died in the last scene was fishing with the grandfather that died in the second scene.” an audience member Amaya Olivera said. Jacob says “ It was the entire cast and nobody had any problems with each other and being really supportive and they were really great and that’s what really made the play fun. If I had the opportunity to do another play I want to do Mamma Mia but instead I’d do tech theater instead. I want to do more plays because everyone in theater is nice and it’s pretty fun .”
In the spring, Hillgrove is doing their spring musical: Mamma Mia. When you have the chance, show some school spirit and show up!
