High Hopes for High School Baseball

You get three strikes, four balls, three outs and six innings to take home a win for your high school. There are just 9 important and most common positions when playing the field, catcher, pitcher, first baseman, second baseman, shortstop, third baseman, pitcher, centerfielder, left fielder, and right fielder. For when batting you had someone up to bat, one “on deck”, and the rest waiting for their turn to hit the ball and score a run in. Hillgrove High school is known for its outstanding academic and athletic program.
The game of baseball only consists of nine players on the field at time on defense. Not one person can lose nor win the game by themselves. Baseball involves a team and not only a team but a family. Baseball shapes kids and young adults just not as athletes but as young adults. Hillgrove baseball has a very good record according to last year. The last baseball season of 2016-2017 the baseball team won 25 games and lost 12. This upcoming 2017-2018 season should be no different. A graduate from last year had many holding records and played a huge part of Hillgrove baseball. Steven Minter scored 75 runs, 86 hits and 97 at bats throughout his career at baseball. Steven now attends the University of Georgia where he continues to play baseball here. “Sports were a big part of my life, and it truly shaped me and the values and moral I have from that,…it’s a good tribute from what I took away from high school.” High school sports are not just past time and keep busy but change and shape kids and get them ready for college and teach them about life and to get along with people you might not have a bond with Many returning star juniors are coming back better than ever and harder their senior season.
In High school baseball everyone coming into this season has to carry themselves. Everyone has to get up at 5:30am for the practices and workouts and be able to contribute as a team and come together to have a successful season. Talking to Chanler Dilday who graduated high school in 2015 says that high school baseball had changed his life. To most kids baseball is not just a sport, but a lifestyle. From being a little kids with the dream to play college baseball and one day make it to the MLB. Dildaystated, “Baseball wasn’t just a sport for me to past time and stay in shape but it was something that taught me discipline and the bond I never got to make with my family I got to make with my coaches and teammates.” Many sports aren’t just sports for kids anymore they are ways of relieving your stress, a way to make you happy, and a way to make a career out of playing and doing something you love. “Baseball has changed my life and without it I’m not sure I would be standing here today. It helped me overcome one of the toughest times in my life.” Dilday added. The sport just doesn’t make you better as an athlete but really does shape you to be a better person and make you ready and help you out for later obstacles in life.
