Hillgrove versus McEachern, a never ending rivalry. The varsity football players of Hillgrove High School played against McEachern High School on October 11, 2019. The score for the game was nineteen to fourteen. Both teams are always on the top, either undefeated or close to it. Hillgrove and McEachern have always been each other's top competition for one another. The game on October 11, 2019 was a very controversial game due to the referee saying the last play from Hillgrove was not a touchdown. In all ways possible it was disappointing for the Hillgrove varsity football players and everyone who was rooting for them. The McEachern team waited for the call and of course rejoiced that they had won the game. The game ratio for Hillgrove is now 5:1 and McEacherns is now 6:6.
There is a suspicion from people around the state that McEachern cheated, since the referee called the touchdown from Hillgrove not a touchdown. There was a lot of talk about this valley, it was on the news and on all social media. The referee's call went viral and then the debate between people from all around began on whether it was a touchdown or not. The coach of both teams would obviously have their opinions on the game, Coach Ironside states “I’m sure they were heart broken, disappointed, but also I think as time moved on, they realized how proud they were in themselves. They really beat them but they didn't beat them, and there’s nothing you can do about it. You know life’s full of you're going to get a bad call in life, you're going to get different things and you have to move on from it.” he is a wonderful coach and keeps thing profesional no matter what the circumstance is. The controversy of who won and what is believed to have been the call is still undetermined, and there is a conversation still going on about who truly won. The McEachern team and their audience was happy that the call went in their favor, making an undefeated team so far. They do not believe they cheated and that it was not their fault the referee called it not a touchdown. Chavez , a student from McEachern high school states “They felt cheated and I know I would too but without being biased or anything, I know it wasn't a touchdown. I read over the rules, and can confirm it wasn't a touchdown. It was very, very close but it wasn’t.” Even though they have different opinions they are both keeping it professional. The call will never be changed but it will always be different depending on what the person believes and what team they are rooting for- Hillgrove or McEachern.
