Hillgrove High School’s varsity football team took another win last Friday, the 12th, against Kennesaw Mountain High School. This was Kennesaw Mountain’s homecoming game, but unfortunately for them, they lost. Hillgrove walked away with a 44-31 win over KMHS, making them undefeated with a current record of 7-0. The theme for Hillgrove was superhero, and Kennesaw’s was Halloween costumes.
Maggie Spiegel, a junior at Hillgrove High School, says that she chose to go to the Hillgrove vs. Kennesaw Mountain game because, “I am a Varsity Football sidelines cheerleader, so I had to go and cheer at this game.” In order to prepare for their upcoming games, Maggie believes that Hillgrove is “practicing really hard and staying very focused at practice.” She thinks that the team will go to state because, “We play well and we have won all of our games so far.”
Junior student at Hillgrove, Kennedy Warren, says that her experience at this game was, “A little stressful because of how close the score was, so I was nervous the whole time.” To better prepare themselves for their upcoming games, Kennedy says that they have “relentless practice every day for hours, and they watch so many films from previous games to see what they need to improve on.” Since Hillgrove is currently undefeated, the one team who Kennedy thinks may possible beat us is, “Marietta because they are also a strong team and that is definitely going to be a tough game.” Kennedy believes that there are many pressures placed on the players when playing against rival teams, but the biggest pressures are that, “they are nervous and stressed out at times because they want to play well and win for their school so they have something to be proud of.”
Chloe Crider, a senior at Hillgrove High School, says she went to the game because, “I know a lot of students that go to Kennesaw Mountain.” When asked how she thinks Hillgrove played at the game, she said, “I think that Hillgrove could have done a better job playing defensively, but overall it was a pretty good game.” Chloe said, “Hillgrove is working on the little mistakes that they have made in the past games in order to better prepare themselves for their upcoming games.” She cannot think of any team that would possibly or potentially beat us this season. One of the main pressures that she believes is placed on the players is, “The pressure of losing because their coaches, teammates, and family members all expect and hope that they will win, so I’m sure that that takes a big toll on their mental state during their games.”
Hopefully Hillgrove can continue their very impressive record and end this football season undefeated.
