The Truth: Halloween Conspiracies

For most people in North America Halloween is a festive time of year. Some may call it a holiday and others may call it an autumn tradition. Halloween is also known as the day of trick-or-treating for young children, and also a day to just kick back relax and watch horror movies. Other people though have different definitions of what they believe Halloween to be. Today people put out jack-o-lanterns to decorate their homes or scare the kids, but the real reasons have deeper meaning. In the 1600s jack-o-lanterns were put on the outside of people’s homes to protect them from evil lingering spirits. This is just one of the many conspiracies and possible true facts The Talon has explored in this article.
Trick-or-treating is one of the biggest festivities of Halloween. Millions of children and teenagers always have to have candy on halloween. There has been one so called myth that many people, including myself, have heard about trick-or-treating. Poisoned or laced candy, is one of the oldest conspiracy theories about Halloween. A lot of parents around the country take their kids trick-or-treating, and if you do not, well it is probably a good idea. While there have not been any recent reports of poisoned candy, there were a couple back in the 1970s.
The only thing that most police officers and authority have been worried about the last couple years is cannabis candy. In other words candy laced with THC or other marijuana ingredients. There is also a fear of people putting sharp objects in candy like razor blades. Senior TJ Gayle said, “My parents always told me about stuff like that I always kind of thought that it could happen.” To stay safe people should make sure their kids trick-or-treat only in familiar areas.
Another rumor that people believe is that people who give out candy will also give out temporary tattoos containing LSD. This is one that people really have to think about because temporary tattoos are normally harmless. It is hard to hear that this is actually something that has ran across someones mind and that people would endanger children with drugs. Always check the packaging on candy to make sure it hasn’t been tampered with, and make sure there are no unusual smells.
Our last couple of conspiracies theories people fear for every Halloween is either a killer clown or some strange impending massacre waiting to happen. Killer clowns is something that America actually has dealt with way back in the 1970s and 1980s with John Wayne Gacy. Gacy was a businessman who would sometimes dress as a clown for little kids birthday parties. Gacy would also hire teenagers to help him with chores around the house. He was known for eventually raping and killing the teenagers and hiding their bodies on parts of his property. America has not had any incident like that since but people are always fearful of it. Probably because of the Stephen King novel “IT” which tells the story of a killer clown.
Remember to always stay safe and always beware of your surroundings.
