The meaning of Halloween changes as you grow up. When you are little, all Halloween is to you is candy and trick or treating, or carving pumpkins with your siblings. As you grow up, Halloween turns into going out with friends and going to parties. Also, many religions do not celebrate Halloween. So how are students at Hillgrove celebrating Halloween? “Probably inside because my religion doesn't celebrate it.” Kristen’s religion is penecoastal, which is one of the many religions that do not celebrate Halloween. Kristen might dress up, but that is only if she is allowed. “I used to only want candy and now I hang out with my friends.” Isabella explains how growing up changed her perspective of Halloween.
Dressing up on Halloween is a tradition and an idea that pops up in someone’s head when they think of Halloween. The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. “I’m being a fairy for Halloween.” “I’m being an angel.” “A devil.” Students at Hillgrove say. Dressing up makes Halloween fun.
Another thing that makes Halloween fun are scary movies. They put you in the right spirit for Halloween. Everyone has a favorite Halloween movie rather it’s scream or It. I would say that Halloween movies are the best type of movies. Tim Burton movies are the perfect example of Halloween. In fact, Morgan Bybel and Cam Gezovich are dressing up as Tim Burton characters for Halloween. “I think Halloween lifts everyone’s spirits and puts everyone in a good mood.”
Although Halloween is on a school night this year, it can still be fun. The students here at Hillgrove are excited to hang out with their friends, eat candy, party, and dress up.
