The spookiest time of the year has come and gone but the memories of Halloween will never be forgotten. Every year Hillgrove students dress up in costumes that range from simple to elaborate, go trick or treating or attend Halloween parties, or even stay at home and hand out candy to trick or treaters. People embrace the holiday more and more every year, creating new traditions year after year. Some Halloween fans watch horror movies, while some enjoy the softer side of the holiday and take trips to pumpkin patches. Either way, millions of Americans take advantage of Halloween, and Hillgrove students are no exception.
Although many Hillgrove students take the time to enjoy the holiday, some took a more scholarly approach. Gabe Torres stayed at home and worked on a research paper for his AP Literature class. He remarked that “it was a bummer that I didn’t get to do something fun, but I’m glad that I got a head start on my paper”. Torres was not in the holiday spirit as much as Emily Sanders. Sanders hosted a small party at her house where the guests wore onesies. They brought a variety of snacks and watched season two of Stranger Things. “It was a quality Halloween extravaganza,” Sanders said of the shindig.
Halloween was a fantastic start to the holiday season. It is a holiday that unites people, whether through finding the perfect pumpkin or sharing spooky stories. Hillgrove students had a ton of fun, whether they were doing school work or catching up on their favorite spooky television show. By the end of the year, the Halloween festivities of October will be outshined by the Christmas festivities of December. Despite this, when we are participating in our Christmas cheer, we will not forget the memories we made during the time of Halloween fear.
