Sitting, waiting, and watching as the clock ticks away, while the silence eats you alive. That one question you asked yourself every summer or holiday break. What do you do when you are bored? There has to be something in this great big world of internet, television, and travel. Well, sulk no more because I have put together a list of activities and suggestions that will make the time go by faster.
A list of music artists: Aaron Taylor, Cat Power, Conan Gray, Daughter, The Dirty Heads, The Dø, Dua Lipa, Frank Sinatra, The Frights, Front Porch Step, Hippie Sabotage, Jack Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Jon Bellion, Kyle, Lights Bokan, The Lemon Twigs, Leon Bridges, Marian Hill, Of Montreal, Pinegrove, Peter Tosh, Post Malone, Proleter, Rex Orange County, The Rolling Stones, Sales, Shakey Graves, Sorority Noise, Sylvan Esso, Tyler, The Creator, The Vaccines, Valerie June, and Yuna.
Each one of these artists above have their own style or genre and could be played according to whatever mood you are in. A big influencer that is blowing up among young adults is Post Malone. He is a rapper/singer that first gained major recognition in 2015 and is about to release his new album today. Many listeners have not previously listened to hip-hop or rap before Malone came into light and that could probably be prompted by his individuality and the way he pushes boundaries. Whether you choose to listen to Malone or any kind of artist, music is one of the best ways to combat boredom, try new things, and educate yourself at the same time.
It seems exasperatingly ridiculous that we remain bored when there are thousands of opportunities to enjoy life. One individual, Alex Stafford, elaborates on this idea by saying, “Being bored makes me angry. I feel like I should not be bored since there is so much to do.” We have so much to do at our fingertips and around town but sometimes it takes too many miles or too much money.
In terms of other activities, you can really get creative. I recently have been into online shopping especially with the previous deals offered by Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I spent, probably too much, money on gifts at several online stores for Christmas including Urban Outfitters, Need Supply Co., BACKBITE, Anthropologie, Inner Decay, Ball and Chain, Etsy, and more.
A list of other online activities: Watch Netflix or Hulu, check out Buzzfeed Unsolved or Shane Dawson’s conspiracy theories, scroll through Reddit to educate yourself, or even look at what 5-Minute Crafts offers in “30 EPIC THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU'RE BORED.”
Whatever you choose to do, boredom is a choice, so get yourself out of that slump and out into the world.
