2019 made the existing of the Grammys sixty one years old. The Grammys premiered on CBS network, Sunday, February 10th at 8:00 PM EST. It was located in the Staples Center of Los Angeles, California and hosted by Alicia Keys. This year’s 2019 Grammys has probably been one of the most controversial ones yet. While some thought it was a bore or not properly organized, others happened to be entertained and satisfied with how things played out.
When asked what her favorite performance was, Hillgrove junior, Shemiah Marshall stated, “Cardi B’s song, ‘Money’ because I liked the energy or how confident she was.” Eleventh grader, Chelsey Onwuzuruike claimed, “My favorite performance was Chloe and Halle. Their beautiful voices are amazing and I love how they add their own runs and uniqueness to each song they sing, they’re amazing.” In agreement with both Shemiah and Chelsey, eleventh grader DeMaya Gaskin said, “Cardi B and Chloe and Halle sang beautifully and Cardi B’s performance was very entertaining.”
Quite a few people believe that the Grammys are not always fair pertaining to certain factors that can sometimes be considered political, but some think otherwise. “No, I don’t think it can be political. I think it’s solely based on who does it best.” claimed Shemiah. In contrast, Chelsey stated, “I definitely think so, since everything nowadays is based on popularity rather than those who deserve it, which is sad because some people deserved to win more than others.” DeMaya’s response was, “No, but I think there is some favoritism.”
In response to which winner was most deserved their award, Shemiah said, “Cardi B, because she started from nothing and made something of herself.” “I think H.E.R. and Ella Mai was most deserving because they both work so hard to be recognized by their music and they really helped the R&B industry with their amazing songs.” claimed Chelsey. DeMaya stated, “Cardi B because she worked really hard in tough circumstances.”
Considering society is progressively changing, music and the way of people are as well. There being different opinions on who deserved what, the best performances and whether or not the Grammys is legititmately fair, many people were still touched by the talented individuals who performed that night. Hopefully in the future, people are more willing to be open minded and accepting of new kinds of artists or are sincerely genuine about musical facts.
