Like theater and want to have fun and make a career with it? February 8th, 9th, 10th, the Georgia Thespian Conference is being held for high schools all over Georgia. Georgia Thespians Conference mission statement is, “Our mission is to promote excellence for Georgia students and teachers by providing growth and leadership opportunities” Being chosen and able to participate in such a high standard and well organized program is an honor and big accomplishment. The Thespian conference is like “regionals” in sports eye.
Teams from all over the state of Georgia get to perform their plays in front of numerous kids and theater professionals. They get to participate in the workshops the professionals theater people put on for you. Many schools from Cobb County are participating in the conference such as, George Walton Academy, North Cobb High School, your very own Hillgrove High School, Alan C. Pope High School, Sprayberry High School, and South Cobb High School. So much talent throughout not only Georgia, but also Cobb County.
Not only do many kids in the theater part of the school get to participate in this thrilling and fun event but each year Georgia Thespians offers $24,500 in college scholarships to twelve senior Thespians. By participating in this conference you able to to get a chance to win 8 different scholarships. The highest and most known scholarship is the Gerald Ray Horne scholarship for $2,500. This type of scholarship is given to a student who shows the qualities of Ray Horne’s career as a director and state leader: service, talent, personality, determination, vision, and compassion.
