"The Curse" Of Georgia Teams

Sports in Georgia have been around for the longest time. Many people would call themselves fans of a Georgia team, such as, Georgia Football, The Falcons, and The Braves. Throughout the years of sports, a rumor of a curse on Georgia sports has spread because they have the worst luck or cannot win. Some may say it is just a coincidence, but others say it is just too good not to be true. Georgia Bulldogs lost against South Carolina because Rodgrigo Blankenship missed a field goal to win the game. The next day, The Falcons lost to the Cardinals also because of a missed extra point to tie the game up to go into overtime.
Charlie Ervin, a sophomore at Hillgrove High School shared his feelings about the games last weekend. Even though Georgia lost, Ervin stands behind Rodrigo Blankenship. “Oh, yeah, well you see here, before this game he was perfect, okay he missed two. One of them was blocked, that is not his fault, the other one he missed it, a pretty easy kick, but you need to remember he is a fifth-year senior. He has never missed an extra point in his entire career and in the Rose Bowl, he hit a 55-yard field goal when half time expired to keep Georgia in the game against Oklahoma.” Through the years of Charlie watching sports, he indeed believes in ‘the curse,’ “I do, well you see the falcons they, they have been cursed for a few years now, they blew a twenty to three lead and since then we have been nothing. The dogs, we have lost two straight games to Alabama in crunch time when we had the chance to win also blowing leads to those games. Then The Braves, 1 point in the final game against The Cardinals. So yes, they are cursed.” |
Ryleigh Akery, a senior at Hillgrove High School talked about how she feels with the popular rumor about Georgia sports. “I mean, if we keep doing the same stuff, no, like I think they just need to evaluate what they did wrong and try to make it better rather than like, thinking they suck and like they are done for.” Even though Akery did not watch The Falcons or The Bulldogs game, she has learned enough about the sport to believe in ‘the curse'. “I mean, by the way it looks yeah, I mean like everything, we cannot catch a break, like a bunch of things happened around the same time, like I don’t know I just see stuff like in 2012, we lost to this team and The Braves lost to this team. It is kind of like, too good not to be cursed.”
From what people have said, seen, or watched they have learned that Georgia teams have coincidentally lost at the same time against the same teams. The teams have lost because of the same mistakes. Everyone talks, and everyone has figured out that it is very possible that they are actually cursed. |
