Will Georgia Have the First Black Female Governor?

This year’s Georgia Governor election has been very hectic. The polls are closed, but they are still counting absentee ballots. In the last update Brian Kemp was winning, but Stacey Abrams was not far behind. Will the few absentee ballots make Abram’s come through with the win?
Bailey Defoor, a sophomore at Hillgrove High School, says, “I want Brian Kemp to win the election because I like what he stands for.” Jenna Rolen, a freshman at Hillgrove High School, contradicts with, “I want Stacey Abrams to win the election because she is a strong leader and I like her views and morals.” On the other hand, Chelsea Udoye, a sophomore at Hillgrove High School, says, “I do not really care who wins because whoever it is they will win for a reason, so everything will be fine.”
Sometimes conflict is caused for families because the children and parents have disagreements in their political views. However, that is not the case for this student, “My parents and I do not want the same candidate to win, but it does not cause conflict in our family dynamic because we do not let those types of issues get in the way of our family.”, says Jenna Rolen. Chelsea Udoye says, “My parents voted for Stacey Abrams, but I do not really have an opinion on the election.”
Most students are not very educated on politics or what the candidate they want to win stands for. Bailey Defoor says, “I am somewhat educated on what Kemp stands for. All I really know is that he does not want socialism which is good.”
Some people are very involved in the election and they are excited to see who wins. Jenna Rolen says, “I hope Stacey Abrams wins the election, but I will not be very depressed if she does not win.” Bailey Defoor says, “I will be a little upset, but I will not be devastated.”
The election this year has had its ups and downs. We may have the first black female governor in American history, and we had a third candidate who most people forgot about, Ted Metz, but in the end hopefully everyone can agree to disagree in this area and move on after they choose the winner.
