California Fire Kills Firefighter
By Ximena Arreguin Castillo
Wildfire “El Dorado”, one of California's latest news updates, has started September 5th, 2020 at about 10:30 am. The fire was human caused using a generating pyrotechnic device most commonly used as a gender revealer, however, things did not go as planned since the once innocent party resulted into a huge catastrofe in which many lives have been taken. Out of the 900 firefighters that were sent, one, who was not just a firefighter but a very important person to his friends and family have passed away trying to make a change.
As of today, the fire had approximately burned 22,601 acres of land in the Yucaipa area. This fire is easily spread with dry vegetation and topography, in addition to that, South California, Yucaipa, was expecting heat waves making the fire even easier to grow due to the high temperatures. The San Bernardino fire department has been sent to help with this tragedy but the life of 39 year old Charles Morton, a 14 year veteran has been taken resulting in his death while “operating fire suppressions” said the U.S Forest Service. “ I think the main reason for big fires starting is California's high temperatures and heat waves that arrive” states Tenth grade Hillgrove High School student, Evelyn Espinoza, in fact her quote does state few of the most important contributions that helped El Dorado WildFire start.
Thursday September 17th 2020, a hero has been lost but will forever live in his family and friends hearts. “He’s loved and will be missed” Morton’s closest family and friends say according to Desert Sun news. They did not just lose a firefighter but a father, husband, and friend. “Having certain laws to prevent any wildfires from happening is a big must and i think it should be dealt with as soon as possible before anything worse happens this 2020,” says Magaly Castillo, who has a family of her own and would be devastated if something like the occurrence happens again to another family, trying to prevent the worst from happening with this fire crisis. Morton had been in the Forest Service since 2007 and it is very unfortunate that he cannot achieve his 15th year in the team.
The “El Dorado” fire is still being dealt with. 3,467 people are needed to evacuate their home as fast as possible since the fire is threatening about 17, 000 more homes. The fire has been going on for 3 weeks now and the fire is still nowhere to be stopped perhaps it has “grown overnight” say reporters of many other news articles. Over 900 firefighter staff have been sent to this tragedy and all we have to do is hope for the best.
