Fall vs. Spring sports

In highschool, there are two different seasons for sports. During the fall season there are sports like football, softball, crosscountry, cheer, wrestling, volleyball, swim and dive, and basketball. Then there are spring sports such as lacrosse, soccer, baseball, tennis, track, pole vaulting, and golf. This allows students to go to more games because they are more spread out and not all in just one season.
Having two different seasons for sports can help students play more than one sport. This is great for students who are interested in more than one sport and do not want to just specialize in just one sport. This allows for more students to be multisport athletes. Victoria Shanahan, a junior who runs cross country and plays on the varsity soccer team, states, “Having two different seasons for the two sports I play helps me a lot so I can stay in shape all year.” Having two seasons for sports can also help with them not overlapping so students do not have to miss one sport more than the other for games or practices.
When most people think of fall sports they think of football, but there are so many other sports going on at that same time. Football is the most popular sport to watch in America. This is probably why it has the highest attendance rate out of all the sports in the school. Many students go to the football games because they are told by friends to go. Gabe Angle, a sophomore at Hillgrove, states, “The main reason I go to the football games is cause I know most of my friends are gonna be there and I want to go hangout with them.” Students like to go to the games to be around friends which brings in more and more students. This is a big reason why football games get so much more attendance than other sports.
Baseball is also a beloved sport by the student body. Baseball is right at the start of spring and most games have such nice weather. It is not too hot and not too cold, just right usually. Paige Cook, a Hillgrove sophomore, states, “I like to go to baseball games a lot because it’s usually very calming and there is normally good weather to enjoy.” This is another part of what is a big difference in the seasons of sports. Fall sports start when it is starting to get colder outside while, most spring sports come along while it is starting to warm up again.
