The idea of dressing for success has been a concept for decades. Most often found in the workplace for companies. It’s interesting to see the comparison of how people, such as students, and the way they dress compared to the way they feel how those around them should dress. A recent study shows that people who dress better have more confidence, feel more powerful, and are more focused on details.
Junior Janna Cleckley claims, “I somewhat believe in the dress for success moto due to the fact many times I just prefer to dress comfortably and that’s what makes you successful. However, on the flip side, if I feel like dressing up will make me feel better then that’s what Ill do.” Student particularly dress down for school because it is indeed repetitive, and it is hard to make out a formal/ put together outfits every day. Furthermore, recent studies do indeed show students do better when they look better. However, modern day students typically would rather to be in more comfortable clothing.
Sophomore Taliah Dallas states she feels students should dress however they feel. “Not wearing what you feel is best for you may make you embarrassed or uncomfortable whether it’s ‘bummy’ or fancy clothing.” She continues with claiming different people have their own interpretation of how they dress for their own success.
Finally, sophomore Xavier King express his own opinion on dressing for success. “ I wouldn’t want to get anything from a company where the workers look crazy.” He expresses that dressing for success is really only important in terms of workplace and important events. Other than that people should dress how they want.
All in all, although studies do show that dressing for success is beneficial, many students and young adults do believe that how they dress for success can be assessed in different perspectives.
