The holiday season is here and Not everyone is looking forward to Christmas
With the holiday season approaching its many find themselves immersed in the hustle and bustle of festive preparations. But admist the seasonal cheer it’s hard to spot the few grinches. So, as we go through the acts of kindness and family traditions, the question lingers … Do you have Christmas spirit?
Kids all over the world are raised on the Christmas traditions celebrated in their household. Eduardo Rodrigues, a 10th grader at Hillgrove High School explains a tradition that he’s shared with his family over the years. He says, “We'll stay up to like midnight on Christmas eve, then at midnight we'll have a big dinner and stuff with friends and family.” “I'll probably go to church on the 23rd then spend time with my family on the 24th, I’ve been doing that basically since I was born.”
However, this is not everyone’s idea of Christmas, Studies show that teenagers tend to become a little less cheery for the holidays than when they were younger 11th grader Jay Mosley speaks on what Christmas feels like to him at this current age. “It don't feel the same no more since I stopped believing Santa, got older, it don't even feel like Christmas it just feels like a regular day when it comes around.” He also later mentioned that if he was younger the holiday season would give him a better feeling.
Aside from childhood nostalgia, another significant aspect of Christmas involves the exchange of gifts among people. This tradition originated around 336 CE in celebration of Jesus’s birthday which followers of Christ recognize as December 25th. Eduardo shares his thoughts he says “I find them (gifts) on amazon ,looking through the internet seeing what I can find that’s cool”
