It is said 95% of high school students don’t know what they want to do. 25% have parents that have picked their career path for them. So, the question is, do students at Hillgrove Highschool have a plan after high school? Are they ready to be independent?
Leaving high school can be very scary, but also exciting. “I'm excited to leave high school, yet really scared. I am nervous to leave everyone I have grown up with and my family, but I’m really excited to meet new people and start the rest of my life” Addison Mccuan, a senior at Hillgrove Highschool, gives a good point, that it will be scary at first, but leaving and starting your life independently is a good thing. “I think the only way you can prepare moving on from high school is to embrace the change. You can prepare for the big move, but if you aren’t ready to take on a new chapter of your life you will never be ready.”
Some people do not have a plan yet, and that is okay. Some people have known for a while, maybe because their parents choose their plan for them, or it is just a passionate topic they like. “I've known since freshman year that I want to be an orthodontist.” Madison Goody has been passionate about being an orthodontist all through high school because it comes easy to her what she wants to do.
Andrea McFall knows that she wants to go to Georgia Tech or University of Georgia. It is always okay to not exactly know your plan after high school, but it is better to have some sort of idea and if not, take a gap year to figure it out. “Late sophomore/early junior is when students should start thinking about their plan after high school.’” Don’t stress out too much about finding a plan. “Everything happens for a reason, so don’t get too stressed out about it because at the end of the day everything will be alright.” Andrea’s advice to anyone scared about leaving high school.
