The hit show Dance Moms had a hiatus back in 2017 when Abby Lee Miller decided to quit the show. Miller was also sentenced to a year and a day in prison from July 2017 to May 2018 because of bankruptcy. However, after her release, she developed a tumor in her spine that led to cancer. Miller had to go under chemotherapy, and an emergency spinal surgery to get rid of the tumor. Sadly after her surgery, Miller was paralyzed from the neck down. She is unable to walk and she has to travel around in a wheelchair. From all the struggles she faced, Miller realized that she was made on this Earth to teach kids how to dance.
Miller came back to the dance community and had tryouts to make a brand new elite team for the new season of Dance Moms, which premiered on June 4, 2019. She selected seven dancers all across the world for her new team. Their names were Brady, Hannah, Lilly, Pressley, Sarah, Gianina, and Savannah. This new team brought in talent, obstacles, and drama from their mothers to make this one of the most craziest seasons yet.
A student named, Zhnyla Wright, is so proud of Miller and how far she has come. She said, “I like Abby, I’m glad she returned and she is so strong”. Miller inspires a lot of people to keep going no matter the circumstance. Bringing Dance Moms back made so many fans happy. High schooler, Mia Diaz, loves the new season of Dance Moms. She exclaimed, “I think it was a good idea to make another season because the fans love watching the dances and the drama but also because it makes Abby happy, and we all want that!” There were many dances this season but Diaz has a favorite one. She said, “My favorite dance is Possessed because Pressley did an amazing job with her face and it actually made me feel really scared.” The dances on the show were very memorable but so was the drama. Wright loves both the dances and drama the show brings. She felt, “I like some drama better than the dances but sometimes I like the dances better than the drama. I can never make up my mind about that.” At some points, the drama gets out of hand and crazy even though that is how the show is portrayed. Wright feels that the drama is sometimes unnecessary. She said, “I feel like moms are overreacting because they knew what they were coming into but they still fight about random stuff but that is how the show works.” Although there is a lot of drama, that is what makes the show so interesting.
Through all of the obstacles this season has faced, it was a huge success because the team became national champions. Miller as well stayed with the team even through tough times. From the success this season received, Diaz wants to see a new season because she fell in love with cast. She exclaimed, “YES! They need to keep going, I already love the new cast!” The return of Dance Moms made Miller and the dancers create a season that will forever be remembered.
