What we Know About Coronavirus

The Coronavirus is at an all time high and this new headline virus continues to spread...even on the United States territory. This virus made news around two weeks ago when people in China started to become diagnosed with something way more severe then the common cold. The virus has made its way to over 19 countries and has killed 132 people in China alone. Doctors are working to eradicate this virus from becoming something worse and wiping it from the face of Earth.
With this new virus going around, it is important to stay alert and stay sanitary. Washing your hands should be done multiple times on a daily basis, but a few extra times would be effective during an outbreak like this. Even though the Coronavirus has been in big news lately, it is not the only sickness going around. It is urgent to continue sanitary practices like washing your hands frequently to avoid catching any type of sickness (flu, strep throat,etc.). The virus is known to have started in China “probably due to the terrible sanitary conditions in the market over in that China town”, says Keon Humphries, a P.E coach at Hillgrove High School. Due to travelers coming to and from China, the virus has made its way to U.S grounds in around 10 different cases. Keon explains how the U.S was affected differently, “Even in the United States we have it (the virus) aswell but it's just from a health standpoint I believe our health regulations are a lot better”. China was not as attentive as they could have been and possibly could have stopped the virus earlier if the government took action sooner. The United States acted as soon as the first case was discovered attempting to stop any further spread. During an outbreak like this, people must be tested before traveling out of the country because this is how viruses spread overseas. In this case, it makes it harder and harder to abolish the virus. Humphries says, “Well they have been forced to shut down and there are a lot of people who are not able to work because of this virus and they have shut down that city to the (rest of) world to try to get things back in line.” The United States has recently enforced travel restrictions on China over the fear of more cases arising. Although China believes this restriction is not necessary, it must be enforced to keep the citizens of the U.S safe. Caroline Cate, a sophomore at Hillgrove High School, strongly expresses her opinion on traveling during this time, “Yes I think they (infected Chinese people) shouldn’t be able to travel here or no one should go over there.”
It is vital for these people to stay quarantined in the mother land of the coronavirus to eliminate the risk of expansion to more and more countries. Better health and sanitary regulations must be put in place as soon as possible. Humphries talks about his outlook on containing the virus, “I think people will find a way to suppress it like most other viruses, in order to at least not make it have such an impact on the world.” It is very much possible to overthrow the coronavirus with the right precautions and attentive treatment.
