What better way could any new or aspiring artists be well prepared than being taken under Beyonce’s wing. Chloe and Halle Bailey, a R&B sister duo commonly known as Chloe X Halle, are protegees of the extremely admired Beyonce Knowles. The process leading up to the two sisters getting discovered started off with them singing covers of popular songs online at the ages of eleven and twelve. At some point, they posted a cover of them singing ‘Pretty Hurts’ by Beyonce on youtube back in 2013. The one and only Beyonce herself re-posted their same video on Facebook with the caption, “so amazingly talented”, after it captured her attention. It was then that Beyonce signed Chloe and Halle to her Parkwood Entertainment label with a reportedly $1 million deal for six albums. Doing a few mixtapes every now and then, Chloe and Halle ended up releasing their first full length album titled The Kids Are Alright on March 23, 2018. The hardworking new artists opened up about writing every song of their album and even executively producing it as well. The album also had them recently nominated for two grammys. While earning the respect of many music icons and making a name for themselves, the dynamic duo known as Chloe X Halle have really set the standards high for a lot of young artists. Beyonce is not the only person’s attention that they have captured. A new generation has shown interest in them too.
When asked why she likes listening to Chloe X Halle, Hillgrove junior, Rachel Sigur said, “I like the smoothness of their sound and their harmonies.” Kaitlyn Whitner, who is in the eleventh grade, expressed that she listens to their music because “They’re good. If they weren’t good I wouldn’t listen to them. It’s all about listening to what you like.” Hillgrove junior, Chelsey Onwuzuruike stated, “I like how they are different and not like the generic singers in the world.”
“I like a lot of their songs but I liked when they did a cover of ‘Eye on the Sparrow’ the most because of how angelic they sounded.”, said Rachel. Kaitlyn’s response was “‘They Used to Love’ is my favorite song by them because I like the acapella and the vocals combined.” Chelsey passionately claimed, “‘Happy Without Me’ and ‘The Kids Are Alright’ from their album because in ‘Happy Without Me’, I love the verse Halle does at the end and how it sounds and with ‘The Kids Are Alright’, it has a lot of instruments that sound very well together and I love how energetic the song is.”
Only at the age of 18 and 20, Chloe X Halle have been signed by Beyonce, released a full length album written and produced by them, and opened up for the “Queen Bee”. It is fairly obvious that the talented sister duo has much more success planned ahead or their future.
