Cheerleading at Hillgrove
Studies have shown that cheerleading is one of the most popular sports to do in high school. I interviewed people from Hillgrove High School and asked them questions based on sources and what I have gathered from the games, watching the cheers.
Cheerleading is a sport for both boys and girls that unites both genders with team effort and shows teamwork with one another. Christina Pratt, a former basketball and football cheerleader, “Girls working together and empowering one another,” Therefore girls and boys enjoy the team because they like collaboration and how exciting it is to learn new cheers and stunts together.
The impact cheerleaders have on the game is very exciting and brings the crowd to be even more interested in the game. Jeleah O'Connor, a former basketball cheerleader states, “They are really hype, the fans are hype, the cheerleaders are hype, which makes the players hype too”, when watching them cheer at the games you can see how engaged the audience is towards the cheerleaders whether it's by yelling the chants with them or cheering them on. Cheerleading is the main sport that shows gender equality and relationship building. Many girls enjoy the sport since they get to do stunts and practice with the girls and learn new things all together.
In most high schools there's basketball and football cheer, football is outside and more calm cheers compared to basketball, which is inside, and they are described as deeper voices and louder. When asked their opinions on which one is better, they stated, “Basketball is better since it's louder, hype and inside” Some people would disagree with this claim since they like it better and were probably on the team.
IIn conclusion, cheerleading is a very supportive sport that’s diverse and brings young ladies and young men together to show teamwork and possibly influence better behavior.
