Cardi B has collaborated with athleisure brand Reebok to release a new collection. On April 23rd, she launched her 90’s inspired apparel. A lot of the products sold out quickly, especially lavender, nude, and red club C sneakers. Her line consists of sneakers, bodysuits, crop tops, joggers, children’s clothing, and leggings. Her first apparel line is an expansion of her previous sneaker collection with Reebok released a year ago.
She announced her release on Instagram, wearing Aztrek sneakers from her collection and Fashion Nova jeans. The photo was captioned, “If you don’t know now you know,” and received over two million likes on Instagram. Her collection features the coated Club C double sneakers and the original Club C sneakers. These sneakers range from $80 to $100 on Reebok’s online store. The sneakers are in high demand, so fans are reselling them on sites like StockX for inflated prices ranging $145 to $500. Cardi wanted to focus on inclusivity in price and sizing. She receives praise from fans like Summer Grant saying, “It’s great to see her focus on more than just being inclusive in size. Feel like brands forget to be inclusive in price too.” In an interview with Footwear News, she tells how she was not able to afford Reeboks as a child, so “Affordability is a Number one. I know where my fans stand. I wanted to make something affordable so they could have a piece of me.” She explains she cares for her fans and would not want to tax them.
In 2020, Cardi released her first collaboration with Reebok, where she released her first shoe collection. She announced her collection right after her birthday and was on the cover of Footwear News. Although, it was met with some controversy because she was dressed as The Hindu goddess. Footwear news removed the cover because of the cultural appropriation allegations. The magazine and Cardi apologized for insensitivity, but still continued on to launch. She managed to sell out in the first 18 hours of it being released. This deal gave her about 1.7 million dollars. The shoe colors were based on important moments in her career. The popular red Club C sneaker was based off of her iconic met gala dress. Another connection would be the black and white sneakers that are based on her outfit she wore on her debut album cover. This personal connection, affordable pricing, and ranging sizes is what makes this release so successful.
