A common way to ensure a school’s athletic success is to transfer their athletes. But the people that it affects do not find it successful, when asked, student at Hillgrove High School Bryson Morgan said, “The school loses talent and players.” This can be detrimental to High School athletic programs but transferred Athletes say otherwise. Hillgrove Basketball, and Football player Caleb Humphries stated, “Sometimes you have better opportunities.” This can be true in some instances but there is still an ongoing argument whether transferring schools strictly for sports is okay or not.
It goes hand and hand, for example when asked Former Hillgrove Football and baseball player Brooks Powell stated, “Unless you move schools that there is no excuse for transferring.” When trying to see both sides of the new wave of transferring, is it related to a bad season? Is it the coaches? Well Hillgrove Football had a very rough 2021-2022 season for a few reasons they had the arrival of a new head coach, and as a result they had a rough 2-8 season. Which caused a lot of transfers Caleb Humphries also said, “You have to give it a chance” He continued, “Team chemistry is a big part of the reason people leave.” These are the reasons for some people leaving. This makes it extremely difficult for coaches to try to rebuild and recharge their programs. “The coaches are frustrated with the potential wasted” This was said by Hillgrove student Brooks Powell. The athletes transferring though also feel as if their potential is being wasted, “Sometimes it’s bad coaches” stated Bryson Morgan. Clearly it must be a personal issue since kids from Hillgrove are being recruited. Some transfers may be caused by ego issues as mentioned in Morgan’s statement, “Because they are bad and think they are going to do better.” Some argue transferring is morally not okay, some it is, but this debate will continue for a long time to come.
