Whether they are streaming on Netflix, Hulu, or shining on the big screen, superheroes are everywhere. Whether you are a DC or Marvel fan, there are tons of television shows to choose from to suit your needs. However? making a successful superhero tv show is one thing, but maintaining it is an entirely different situation, as anyone who watched Luke Cage, Iron Fist, or Daredevil knows. While Marvel shows are taking a bit of a hit, DC shows are having a great run. In fact, because of the popular three part series Elseworld, another new and exciting hero has been introduced: Batwoman.
The character was first seen helping the DC’s other heroes, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), The Flash (Grant Gustin), and the Arrow (Stephen Amell) bust out of jail. The hero played by the beautiful and talented Ruby Rose, is set to have her new show premier sometime in 2019. Many are excited to see Rose, who previously starred on the Netflix original Orange is the New Black and made appearances in popular movies like Pitch Perfect 3, The Meg, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. The character Batwoman has had several takes and reboots, but the latest one from 2008 seems to be the one DC is following. Batwoman also known as Katherine “Kate” Kane is a highly intelligent and capable woman with a diverse and strong military background. Her backstory includes being the daughter of a colonel, being related to the very popular and menacing Batman, and for being one of the few openly gay superheroes in the DC Universe. Kane had to train extensively for years to reach the level that she is at and she also had to overcome a lot, like being kicked out of the United States Military Academy for being gay and the death of her mother. Overall, people think Batwoman is a win for the LGBT+ community, a place that can always use more proper TV representation about who they are and how they live in the world.
Although there is few details about when and who else will be joining the show, it has been confirmed that the storyline will involve Kate being “armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.” If the Elseworld is any indication, Batwoman will be a spectacular addition to the CW.
