Spirit week Themes
Students and Staff here at Hillgrove love to participate to show enthusiasm and show love for school. “It brings good school spirit and unity to the school; makes school more fun it changes things up” Katie Danas and Gavin Askew. Our themes include Monday- monochromatic, Tuesday- character day, Wednesday- mathletes vs athletes, Thursday- decade day, Friday- western.
Everyone is looking forward to mathletes vs athletes and character day, but decades seem to be the most popular. A fun day full of everyone’s favorite time eras. It’s an easy day to participate in, take a quick look in your closet and you are bound to find something.
There are many opinions on our themes this year, “I like them, but I feel like we can be more creative, but it doesn’t matter because I'll still do them” No matter what the themes are students will still participate but it does not change the disappointment of what students wanted, but there is always a reason they were not allowed. “Some people can take them the wrong way and make them inappropriate, and some people can take them too far and get into trouble”.
Pep Rally
Pep rallies are a great tool to involve the entire school and get everyone excited for the big game. They generate school spirit right before the game. Hillgrove has lacked pep rallies for the past few years due to covid, but we’ve recently started them up again and students are excited to show they’re school spirit.
Competition is always a major thing when it comes to pep rallies. Spirt stick to be specific. “the seniors will most likely win because they have a lot of energy” Emily Darnell. “freshmen will perform the least, because they don’t want to be awkward”. Upperclassmen are typically known for more energy when it comes to spirit. Class rivalry can become interesting during a pep rally seeing the freshmen battle the juniors in tug of war is always a big hit. Administration participation also brings spirit. It is always fun to watch your teachers perform in activities.
Homecoming Game and Parade
This year’s theme is western, so “there will be a lot of cowboy boots and hats”.
Everyone loves a good Friday football game. Band loves to perform and play. Students love to shout in the stands. Cheerleaders flip and cheer to bring up the intensity. And of course, our football team plays. Add homecoming in front of the game and it brings things to an entirely different level.
Our Homecoming parade shows our homecoming nominees in fancy cars. Clubs advertise what they do. And marching band plays entertaining music. The parade is a walk from Still elementary to Hillgrove high school. Candy is thrown, and kids and parents gather around to watch and enjoy.
Our halftime will consist of the homecoming court walk and winner announcements and after the game our marching band will perform. So be sure to stick around because it will be full of fun.
