Atlanta United is having a great first season with 11 wins, 6 draws, and 5 losses. The five stripes (Atlanta United) have 3 games next week against FC Dallas, New England Revolution, and Orlando City. Mr. Broome, a teacher at here at Hillgrove, has season tickets and went to the first game Atlanta United played, “The crowd was ridiculous, the atmosphere I think, is what makes the game.” The fans have bought every ticket at all eight home games at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Atlanta United is an attack heavy team that typically plays out of the back. Hector Villalba is the clubs top goal scorer at 10 goals and he is 19th in the league. Although the five stripes are very attack heavy they still have only allowed 32 goals, which is the third lowest in the league. Brad Guzan just signed with Atlanta and some fans were worried about his performance. I asked Gunther Rankenburg, Hillgrove’s Varsity soccer goalkeeper, about Brad Guzan, and he said “I was kinda worried when he first came but he's done very well.” The new goalkeeper has one of the highest save percentages in the league at 77.3%.
This Sunday, Atlanta United will play their first game in the new Mercedes-Benz stadium. Fans like Mr. Broome are unsure if the massive $1.6 billion stadium will be the perfect fit, “my fear is that the fans are too far from the field.” The fans are a major part of the team especially in Atlanta
