Ariana Grande, a pop singer whose career has skyrocketed, has recently released three new singles. “Thank U, Next” was released on November 3,2018, “Imagine” was released on December 11, 2018, and just recently “7 Rings” was released on January 18, 2019. All three are singles off of her new album “Thank U, Next” which is set to debut on February 8th. She has brought a new sound and light to her music and the change has been worth it. “7 Rings” got 14.69 million Spotify streams in just 24 hours. That is the largest amount of streams to happen on the platform. The track along with “Thank U, Next” also debuted No. 1 on the charts.
With this kind of attention it is obvious Grande has a large fan base, and it is growing by the day. One of those fans being a 10th grade high school student, Leah Darden. She commented about how Grande has taken the trauma of 2018 and pulled it into her music: “I feel that with her new music, she is more open with her feelings and that she expresses a few of those feelings in them.” This falls nothing short of the truth. Grande’s new music contains lyrics that are vulnerable, relatable, and honest. She has poured her pain into her art.
Grande has broken many records and it has not went unnoticed. Darden said, “I think it is the fact that her music is going in a different direction, and is directed more towards people’s general interest. It’s a mix of pop and hip hop.”
Carissa Miller, an elementary student and Grande enthusiast, also talked about her view on Grande’s new music. Miller expressed that, “ ‘7 Rings’ was my favorite because it was out of her comfort zone. It was a good comeback from [2018].”
She then continued to say, “I think I will like [the new album], and I’m excited for it to come out. I’m gonna be super excited because of the countdown to the date, especially this year because I feel like this year will be her year.”
College student, TJ McCray, commented, “ ‘Thank U, Next’ taught me that it’s okay to move on. It’s okay to understand its a lesson whether love was involved or not.” She also went to say that Grande has much more to come and “it’s a process. This is just the beginning.”
With Grande only being 25 years old McCray is probably right. Her past projects and experiences has led her to this moment. A period where her art is extremely successful and truly reflects what she wants to project out into the world. Be on the lookout for Grande’s new album “Thank U, Next” early next month.
