“American Idol, the genre-shattering singing competition show that went off the air just a year ago, because of falling ratings, is coming back to television on ABC.” “ABC made the decision to bring back American Idol just a week before its annual upfront presentation, a meticulously devised showcase for advertisers on which a network announces its fall lineup.” “At its height, American Idol was one of the most dominant shows on television. It was a ratings force that sometimes drew more than 30 million viewers a night — the sort of numbers that only playoff football games get these days.” “It was an emotional moment, as dozens of former contestants — many of whom had their lives changed by the show — returned to pay their respects to the groundbreaking television series, which was going off the air forever.”
American Idol is mainly watched by people of ages 35-49. However, that does not mean teens and children do not watch it. Morgan McQuagge, a sophomore at Hillgrove, says that “I am super excited about American Idol coming back on tv, especially because me and my mom used to love watching it together. Honestly, I kinda forgot about that show, hahaha!” Morgan Lunsford, a Hillgrove student who watches a lot of tv, says, “ To be honest, I have never seen that show so, I do not know if I am going to watch it when it comes back on tv.” Morgan Lunsfords states that she watches a lot of tv but has never seen American Idol. Maddie Scoggins, also a sophomore at Hillgrove, says, “American Idol is a great show and I don't see why they would even think to get rid of it in the first place.” Maddie also says that she was angry before but then she just forgot about the show overall.
American Idol means a lot to some people. It is what inspires them, lets them know their worth, and what makes them believe they have a chance. Taking that away from them can change the way they are as a person. American Idol is back and ready to prove they are worth being on tv. They may have had a rocky start but they have learned from it. American Idol has made singers like Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood all very famous and successful in the music industry and they plan on giving lots of others the same opportunity that these three once had.
