Amazon Rain Forest Fire

The Amazon Rain Forest is the largest rain forest covering approximately 5.5 million km
and is located mostly in Brazil. It is the most bio-diverse and lush rain forest in the world.
Unfortunately, the rain forest unexpectedly caught fire and has been spreading rapidly. On record,
there have been around 80,000 fires. Not many sources have been talking about this and have not
been keeping people updated.
Sofia Light, a sophomore at Hillgrove high school, stated her opinion on this tragedy.
“Because, I mean, not only will it be burning down a whole lot of new fresh plants and food that
contribute oxygen to this world, but also a lot of habitats that animals live in, you know, just a lot
of animals homes will be affected.” Animals and vegetation are being damaged, and food and
habitats are being destroyed. Along with trees burning, comes a lack of oxygen in the
atmosphere, tons of carbon would be released into the air. The surrounding countries will also be
affected heavily. Emma Russel, a sophomore, states, “Well they’re inhaling, like pollution and
smoke from the forest and everything and their homes and land could be affected.” Everyone and
everything surrounding these intense fires will be damaged.
Many people do not know that this is going on in the world and do not understand the
large impact this will make on the future. Kaylan Parkes, a sophomore, thinks, “I think there are
a lot of environmental foundations and I think there’s a lot of environmentalists that are very
worried about this and this issue but we’re just being blind to the issue.” There is not a lot that
everyday people can do about this, but the word needs to be spread. Some of the fires have
slowly faded out, but many are still burning and spreading. Humans have contributed to this
problem in many ways, “Um, I mean, a lot of people are kind of not intelligent and don’t have
common sense when it comes to global warming, which is a growing problem,” says Sofia Light.
Emma Russel also said, “It was kind of careless with the way they treated the land and just like
how they handled the problem.”
Even though humans might have not caused it fully, the reaction of the public was not
handled correctly or responsibly. This problem will continue damaging the atmosphere and
world if humans do not start taking the necessary precautions to prevent another catastrophe.
