Most people would think it impossible that a book written on an online domain would turn into a highly read and talked about book and series. It is even crazier to believe that this book was turned into a major motion picture. The book After was written by Anna Todd, a 30 year old American author that started off writing this book on the website Wattpad. From there she continued to create a book series that has now been turned into a movie. The movie was released on April 12, 2019 all across the U.S. and is soon to be released in France as well.
The story is based off of the life of a college student named Tessa. Throughout the movie it shows Tessa and Hardin, the other main character, and the experiences they have in college. One of the many things talked about regarding the movie is the casting. Kennedy Dunning says," They did really good on casting. They were really able to capture the personalities of the characters." Most people would agree that the two main characters played, by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin and Josephine Langford, were portrayed in a way that stayed true to their original characters in the books. The actors were able to portray the quirkiness that is Tessa and the mysteriousness that is Hardin. People were able to see the characters they imagined really brought to life.
The main problem that people had with the movie was the fact that some parts did not stay true to the book. While the basic story plot was there, some feel it lacked the detail needed to really create the story. Kaitlyn Whitner states," The main thing was that many of the details were missed or different. It didn't change much, but it made the story line less interesting." Most of the differences that were noticed were the details of the story. Whether it was how they got their apartment, or the involvement of their friend group, or even how Hardin tells Tessa about his feelings. The small details mattered to the devoted fans and while they still enjoyed the movie some were sad to see that their favorite parts were not included.
With all the popularity and buzz of the movie, many are wondering if there will be a second movie.With the way the first movie ended the best guess is that people will be left wanting more and will lead to a second one, but if there was to be one created, many would want them to stick more to the original story plot. Regardless, the excitement of the continuation alone is most likely enough to get it approved. Just keep a look out for details and updates regarding it from the production team and crew.
Overall After was a very highly anticipated movie and many people enjoyed seeing one of their favorite books come to life. If you have read the books or just want to see a good cheesy romance I would highly recommend taking a look.
