We have all seen the news on TV in the morning, but not many of us have seen the behind-the-scenes. Talon TV has been around since Hillgrove High School opened in 2006 and is still on to this day. The crew members go to film class before 8:15 and then practice until 8:20 when they start. Talon TV was made to inform students about upcoming events or due dates, along with a career path for anyone interested in the film and entertainment industry.
But before you join Talon TV, you should join one of the audio/video classes. The classes are key to learning how to operate the camera and how to produce the morning show. "To watch my students be able to put a show on and watch the magic and watch the magic of being able to come up with an idea for something and carry it all the way through and then broadcast it to the whole school." Stated the director of Talon, TV Lisa Watson. Joining the classes can help you decide whether that is really what you’re interested in. And if it is, then you can continue your path and eventually be able to help with news production in levels 3 and 4.
If you don’t want to join Talon TV, then that’s okay too. Ms. Watson, the audio and video teacher, also offers regular classes. The class teaches you the history of video entertainment as well as shows you how to work the cameras. This class is very independent and hands-on. "I tell them just to try it out. It may seem a little daunting or it may seem like an easy class depending on the person but there's definitely levels of work you have to get through, but the outcome is so much greater than the amount of work," says Ilana Barber.
This Talon Tv is a good way to gain experience if you are interested in the broadcasting industry. "It's definitely worth it, you get a pathway out of it once you get to 3 and 4 you just got to study for that test, and you learn a lot of skills." says current Talon tv member Walker Dyson. It teaches you a lot of valuable skills that could help you later in your career. Overall, Talon Tv is a good way to socialize along with a pathway. The classes are also a good alternative that provides the same results. If you are interested in the entertainment field but don’t want to be on stage this is a good option.
